how to know your skin type at home
Skin types and concerns change due to factors like age, physical environment, genetics, hormones and lifestyle. A skin concern is different from a skin type. Skin concerns can appear on any skin type.
Skin concerns are many e.g. dehydration, breakouts, sensitivity, darks spots etc. Skin types are in 4 main categories: normal, dry, oily, and combination.
If you want healthy skin, you need to understand its current concerns and find your skin type. This way you’ll know which skincare products would best suit you.
What you need
A gentle cleanser like the VWash Plus intimate wash or Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash Gel. Both are available at Good Life Pharmacy.
A clean paper towel, cotton round or a soft towel (optional)
Steps to know your skin type
Use the cleanser to wash your face.
Pat dry or let your face air dry.
Wait 1 - 2 hours with no product on your face.
Analyse your face. What do you see?
Skin feels plump, hydrated and smooth with no signs of excess oil or flaking. It has few problems and barely visible pores. You might see a lil' oil around your t-zone, but the rest of your skin will appear, normal. You are blessed.
Skin looks and feels oily on the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. Overall, the skin is greasy and shiny and may have enlarged pores. The skin may also have pimples and blackheads.
Skin looks dull, rough or flaky; feels dry and tight. If you blot it with a facial tissue, there is barely any oil on the tissue. Dry skin also barely has visible pores.
Some areas of the skin are normal, others (most likely the T-zone) oily and others are dry. So you may need different spot treatments for the different areas. The skin may have slightly large pores and look shiny.
I have normal to dry skin and my concerns are breakouts, dehydration and dark spots. What about you? What is your skin type and concern? Let me know in the comments!
