How I Take Care of my Skin During a Cold
I recently recovered from a cold. And oh God there's nothing cute about teary eyes, dullness and raw skin around the nose from constantly blowing.
While I was in the thick of it, on Insta Stories, I asked if you would like to know how I take care of my skin when I have a cold. 85% of you said yes! So here we are.
Your skin may be drier when you have a cold due to different reasons: the weather, medication and the constant rubbing with tissues. It helps if you hydrate and soothe it.
It may be tough but try to cleanse your face. Applying products to skin that has a film of mucus is just nasty. I love the Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash, it’s fragrance-free and gentle enough to be used in the AM and PM. On the nights you simply can't move, use facial wipes or baby wipes.
I love popping a sheet mask in the freezer for a few minutes and laying it on my clean face. The Innisfree Aloe Mask helps to calm skin, reduce puffiness and make me feel human.
Apply moisturizers that will heal the raw area around the nose and protect the rest of the skin. I love the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. It has moisturizing panthenol and anti-inflammatory madecassoside.
Spritzing on a hydrating facial mist throughout the day will calm and refresh the skin.
Reapplying a soothing lip balm like the NIVEA Essentials will heal chapped lips. I also apply the lip balm on the philtrum (area between top lips and nose) to prevent flaking. I like these NIVEA lip balms because they are essential oil free and have great moisturizers like shea butter and jojoba oil.
Avoid certain actives. In order to reduce on how dry my skin feels, I set aside actives like retinoids and exfoliants to focus on products that heal the skin. I pick up on the actives after I'm whole again.
Rest, drink lots of fluids and get rid of that cold. How do you take care of your skin when you have a cold or allergies? Let me know!
